The very last opening of the seed shed this year is on 14th December. Whizz down there quick as Geoff Button is clearing the last of the autumn onion sets (variety 'Shakespeare') at 40p for 500g (down from the previous very competitive price of £1 per 500g), and the last bulbs of garlic "Early Purple Wight", specially bred for the South of England, now at 40p per bulb (about 12 cloves to a bulb), down from the previous price of 85p a bulb.
Early Purple Wight is a premium variety from those specialist breeders on the Isle of Wight. It is purpose-bred for the South of England and will give better results than ordinary ones. Even if you've already put some garlic in, it's worth trying this variety for comparison.
You still have plenty of time to plant both onion sets and garlic, as the autumn has been very late this year!
