We are slowly getting to grips with finding other allotment groups, including parish allotments and those set up as private schemes, grant-aided projects, and so on. As we assemble details this list will grow.
Black Bull allotments at Cheriton near Folkestone.

Brabourne and Smeeth Allotment Society
Brabourne and Smeeth allotments were set up in 2010 on land acquired from Shepherd Neame for the purpose. being nearby, we have been keen to forge links with them, and all members have been invited to join the Trading Store. Since the first spade went in, the allotments have come on well, but they do not have a dedicated website. Click on the pic to go to the community website page with contact details. |
Communigrow at Larkfield and Ditton near Maidstone
"Learning, Teaching, Sharing food and farming in for two communities in the heart of Kent. The social aims and objectives include healthy eating, well-being through activity, natural - more sustainable - farming & communities. " says the website. One of the new generation of voluntarily organised "allotments" set up to educate, grow food communally and generally be 'green'. An interesting project, very far removed from the traditional allotment. Click on the pic to go to their website and see the kind of thing that is going on these days, mostly supported by enviable amounts of grant money. |
Maidstone Allotments
Maidstone allotments are owned by the council, like the Ashford ones, but are managed on a voluntary basis by Maidstone Allotments Management Committee. There are 12 sites, and they have 5 shops. Visit their very beautiful website (click on the picture left) to see how a self-managed allotment group can work. |
