Sewage is, we have been told, overflowing from a sewer which has a manhole access on Musgrove New allotments (NOT Musgrove Farm). This has been reported as an urgent job to Southern Water who have undertaken to have contractors out there to clear the blockage during Saturday 6th December.
Any further queries should be made to Southern Water on 0800 820999 (7 days a week) Update later on Saturday: Southern Water have now attended and say the drain is now running freely. They suggest that the overflow was during the recent period of heavy rain. They also told us that they were unable to get to the manhole cover as it has had heavy stuff piled on it by the nearby plotholder. It is essential that Southern Water can get to this manhole cover when necessary - overflow of sewage onto the plots just isn't nice and the next manhole cover is too far away to be of use. Please clear any stuff on manhole covers on all sites, and keep them clear! Sewage does contain bacteria, but these are killed by sunlight and frost, so no longer-term contamination is taking place. However, it is essential further overflows are reported. Those of you who have ordered Kings Seeds through the bulk buying scheme at the Trading Store can collect your orders on December 13th during the usual opening hours. This will be the last opening for 2014, so take this chance to pop along and pick up your gardening essentials. You can also collect some chipped bark for your paths; the Trading Store has shovels but bring your own bags. Times for opening in 2015 have yet to be finalised, but the usual is for the Trading Store to be closed during January, and open every weekend in February, so it is likely to be the same next year. Full opening time will go on the Trading Store page as soon as Geoff has given me them.
