I noticed yesterday that Wilkinsons are starting their season by offering 3 for the price of 2 on all their own-brand and Johnson's seeds (cheapest free). As the initial prices are from 60p to £1.60 a packet, this makes them a real start for anyone on a tight budget. You won't find flashy new varieties or 17 different types of chili pepper like some of the expensive catalogues, but the range is wider than you'd expect and the varieties are tried and tested gardeners' favourites.
As Wilkinson's also offer a good range of gardening sundries, beyond what can be stocked at the Trading Store, it is always worth checking them out before you make the trip to the garden centre.
Just another reminder to put 11th February on the calendar for the Annual General Meeting of the Ashford Allotment Society. ALL PLOTHOLDERS WHO RENT THEIR ALLOTMENTS FROM ASHFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL ARE AUTOMATICALLY MEMBERS, so don't be shy about coming along.
For more about the AGM, and the minutes of previous meetings, go to the OFFICIAL STUFF section (see menu on the left for full list of sections.). Seed potatoes are now in stock at Harringe Plants at Sellinge (01303 814422). The boss is sending me a list as soon as he can and I will put it on the website for you.
Harringe Plants sell their seed potatoes by weight, so you can have as few or as many of any variety as you wish. Bags and labels are provided, just selct what you want and the total weight will be charged at the till. This is ideal for those who want to try a new variety, or have a small plot where a whole bag of seed potatoes would be too much. |
This website is happy to publicise all garden-related events.
