Glyphosate weedkiller doesn't harm soil structure and used to be considered OK for long-term organic use: it was only the excessive use of the chemical by some commercial organic growers which led to it being taken off the 'approved' list. The advantage of glyphosate is that is is only absorbed through green leaf tussue, and washs harmlessly off brown bark. As long as there are no leaves or opening buds on the plant, you can water the surface weeds and kill them without harming the bushes. You can even use it on a dormant asparagus bed!!!
However, not everyone has a bottle of weedkiller in the shed. To help out those who just want to do a small area, Geoff is providing individual sachets of glyphosate weedkiller at the Trading Store at 90p per sachet. One sachet will be all you need to do a modest sized fruit section, saving you unnecessary expense!
