This tool store is available to any allotmenteer willing to collect and move it. It is on William Road allotments and you can back a vehicle up close to the section via the gate into Musgrove New, but the shed will have to be moved about 50yards or so along the main path. I came across a very useful person the other day offering his services relating to repairing and servicing leading makes of petrol garden machinery. He also offers blade sharpening , sales and collection and delivery is available. I recently rang a number of service shops asking them for a price on servicing my petrol mower and I was staggered by the astronomic prices quoted. Having met with this chap and had my mower collected, excellent service at the fraction of the cost quoted from professional shops, I wondered if his details could go on the website as I am sure he would be a very useful contact for people with allotments. Leigh Mower Services Located in Kennington, Leigh Mower Services offer competitive rates for the repair of all leading makes of petrol garden machinery. Does anyone have either of the following which could be lent for this year's Pumpkin Show? Or would be willing to donate or sell secondhand?
Gazebo, the kind you can erect on a hard surface, weather-resistant or rain-proof. 3 metres square would be ideal but we are open to offers! Folding tables - not flimsy paste-tables of the sort that collapse in the middle though, as they will be supporting squash and marrows. The committee are looking into buying both items for long-term use, so let us know if you hear of any going spare! There is still plenty of free woodchip for plotholders and Trading Store members at Westrees site. Bring your own bags - shovels are available to borrow at the Trading Store when it is open, or bring your own with you.
This woodchip is the product of tree surgeon's work and is mixed hardwood and conifer. It is ideal for paths but unsuitable for composting. Woodchip can be collected whenever the Trading Store is open or when plotholders are present to allow you access. Heather Ahern is desperate to get a polytunnel, so if anyone out there knows of someone who has more polytunnels than they need, or is giving up and would like to sell theirs, please get in touch.
Email Heather at [email protected] Mr Dickerson has kindly been dropping woodchip from tree surgery work at Westrees allotments on Quantock Drive for a while.
Plotholders from other sites who would like some woodchip are invited to apply to the Trading Store on any of its regular open days (click here for the Trading Store page). The woodchip should be bagged up before you take it away - please bring your own bags and shovel. In order to be fair, the Trading Store people will try to make sure that as many people as possible get a chance to take some, so the amount you are allowed to take will not be unlimited. The woodchip is fresh and will contain some conifer chippings, so it is more suitable for paths than for composting. Con is looking for a shed for Burton Fram. If anyone has anything unwanted and suitable, please let me know on ashfordallotments.org.uk
Tony Fagg has spare cabbage plants of Spring Cabbage varieties 'Flower of Spring' and 'Offenham', ready for planting out shortly. These can be collected from Cryol Road allotments by arrangement. This offer is for plotholders and Trading Store members only please.
We have suggested Tony ask a token donation of 50p for 10 plants, which will go to the Show Kitty towards the 2015 show. Please telephone to arrange a time to collect, on 01233 612129 The Pumpkin Show will have a sale of vintage, second-hand and nearly-new tools, as well as the other delights. Also there will be gardening books of all kinds going cheap - new ones in addition to any you saw at the Summer Show.
If you have any donations to add please bring them on the day. All money raised will go into the kitty towards the expenses of next year's Summer Show, which we hope will be better than ever. |
