Vacant Allotment Sites in Ashford

Currently, this section is a notebook of matters relating to vacant sites.
There are currently several vacant allotment sites in Ashford. These sites were closed during the years when there was little demand and have not been brought back into use. At a time when the number of people on the waiting list is more than half the total number of plotholders who DO have allotments, and when the council is subdividing plots so that no-one has the option of more than a half plot, it would clearly be desirable to bring these sites back into use. In this section we will bring before you our research into the costs and technicalities of doing so. Anyone with an interest in this matter is warmly invited to email us with their views or suggestions.

Where are these vacant sites then?

MEADOWBROOK, Kennington. Council owned.
Off Vicarage Road. Naturally enclosed by garden boundaries. This site definitely had water laid on at the time it was closed. It has a large tree in the middle of the site which would have to be worked round, plus some overgrown hedges on the boundaries.
TORRINGTON ROAD, South Ashford. Council owned.
Enquiries were made about reopening this site a few years ago but the council at that stage were concerned about costs and maintenance. This site is enclosed on three sides but flanks the track by the South Eastern Tavern on the fourth side, where sturdy fences would be needed. It is believed there is no water laid on. The ground is open and it is clear from footpaths visible on aerial photos that people regularly walk across the site.

GODDINGTON ROAD - unsure if this is council or railway owned
This site is not enclosed, and is flanked by a derelict site and the main railway line. It is fully open with no tree growth. There is a long boundary next toi Carlton Road.

ULLEY ROAD Kennington. The probability seems this is church or parish owned.
This smallish triangular site is enclosed only by three roads - Ulley Road, Ball Lane nd Church Road Kennington. It is not yet known how long the site has been unused, and whether it has water.

ANYONE WHO HAS MORE INFORMATION ABOUT
ANY OF THESE SITES IS ASKED TO CONTACT US PLEASE.
